They work to relieve the pressure as cells inflate/deflate sequentially over a specified time. When used in conjunction with clinical judgement, they result in improved quality and safety in care.
Whilst seated in an upright position localised pressure to the buttocks and thighs is increased. Alternating cushions can therefore help to relieve this pressure and provide 24hr care for those vulnerable to pressure ulcers.
